Our Solar Blankets help raise your pool water temperature by up to 10 to 15° , as well as help retain heat from a traditional pool heater or heat pump when the pool is not in use. Solar Blankets are made from a film of thousands of tiny bubbles, which work together to collect and retain heat in your pool. The Solar Blanket floats on top of the water and allows the solar energy to pass through, then traps it as retained heat in the pool. It is also ideal as a thermal blanket for heated pools. Solar energy (short wavelength) easily passes through the blanket. The heat is retained in the water, which radiates at longer wavelengths. It is restricted from readily dissipating into the atmosphere due to the special design of the blanket (see diagram, right). What do they do? Solar Blankets will increase pool water temperature by 10 to 15 degrees and will reduce heating costs up to 75%. Pool water stays warmer longer, therefore extending the swimming season. Most heat loss in a pool is caused by evaporation. A solar blanket will trap the heat in and reduce evaporation by around 95% and will save up to 50% on pool chemical usage while the pool is covered. The blanket also acts as a barrier to prevent leaves and debris from entering the pool, thereby reducing maintenance time. What is the difference between the thickness of the material? There is no difference between the quality of the 8 mil, 12 mil, or 16 mil except for the thickness. The thicker the material the longer the solar blanket will last. If you have a solar reel I suggest no more than 12 mil material since the solar blanket will be very heavy and may bend your solar reel pole. When I go to install the solar blanket do the bubbles go up or down? You asked a great question! When installing your solar blanket you want to make sure the bubble side is down.
